At Vivatech, Europe's largest tech event, Serena and Venus Williams announced their support for the investment platform Shares as shareholders and ambassadors for a new campaign.
Launched in the UK in 2022 and recently in France in November 2023, Shares is distinguished as a "democratic investment platform," according to its CEO, Benjamin Chemla. Shares' mission is to make investing accessible to everyone, enabling users to place orders, manage their portfolios, and discuss investments with friends and family. On Shares, everyone can invest together and watch their investments grow long-term by sharing experiences and knowledge.
Shares' success among typically hesitant investors is attributed to its innovative approach. The app functions as a social network: a "discover" feed allows users to follow others' investments, create posts, and engage in discussions. Users can also form groups to invest collectively, a feature that provides reassurance to novices and encourages them to enter the investment space.
The interest of the Williams sisters in Shares stems from their desire to broaden access to investment for traditionally excluded populations, particularly women. Beyond their roles as shareholders, they will serve as ambassadors for the platform.
Since its inception, Shares has raised $90 million, with Valar Ventures as its primary investor. The app already boasts 110,000 users. Through the campaign with Serena and Venus Williams, Benjamin Chemla aims to make Shares "the preferred investment platform for the French." To achieve this goal, new features will be added in the coming months, including a managed portfolio, professional securities account, and PEA (French tax-efficient savings plan for stocks).
